Spinach Banana Smoothie

This one actually turned out pretty good. There is room for improvement but it definitely not bad. I used a program called Fitday to make the list of ingredients and to show the nutritional value. I used 2 tablespoons of Agave Nectar, but Fitday didn’t have agave nectar in it so it is not included in the list. I use a combination of ground raw yellow peas, brown rice, and flaxseed to add protein to salads, I simply use a coffee grinder and grind them all to a fine powder. I got the idea from the book Thrive: The Vegan Nutrition Guide to Optimal Performance in Sports and Life, I plan on writing more about this book and a few other by the author, Brendan Brazier.

Don’t do this, terrible sweet potato smoothie

DSC_0883-FacebookI personally love sweet potatoes, I wanted to see if I could come up with a smoothie using them. Fair enough. I looked at what I had on hand and crafted one of the most terrible awful things I’ve ever choked down my throat. It’s pretty simple, here it goes:

1x Cooked sweet potato
2x Carrots
3tbs Agave nectar
2 cups Ice

I blended the hot sweet potato with the ice before putting in the carrots and Agave nectar so that they would never be warmed up either. I can believe how unbearable this smoothie is. If anyone reads this and knows something simple with sweet potatoes please share; provided it doesn’t taste like this.

Turning a new leaf

Ok, so I decided to become a vegan. This isn't is big of a change for me as it would be for most people. I used to be a vegetarian and after I stopped that I pretty much put the axe to eating dairy. So really I'm putting both sides together.
What's the reason for the change? My health. My fitness. When you stop for a second and think, the source your all nutrients start with the sun’s energy then to the plants then to the animals, each time getting less potent. Then surely any form of energy and nutrients you would expect to receive from an animal would be richer and more pure in the plants they eat. Right?
My main interest is seeing how much I can improve my climbing, running and cycling through nutrition, but I know there are many other advantages to be had.
I'm making this blog to catalog the food I discover, recipes I find, advantages I feel, and anything else worth remembering or sharing.
Stay tuned.
